About

Hi, I’m Abby. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as well as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. I’m originally from Texas and have come to love Syracuse and the people we’ve met here. I have been practicing as a therapist for over ten years in different settings and have learned a lot about people and relationships. I’ve worked with happy couples, unhappy couples, college students, parents, people who desperately want to be parents, survivors of trauma, people who are  struggling with anxiety or depression, and lots in between.

People I work with are often in pain, feel isolated or stuck, or like life isn’t going the way they expected. I love to help them find their way through a difficult experience or stage and feel more grounded, more resilient, and more connected to themselves and their partner.

In my practice, I help couples reconnect and heal from ways that they may have hurt each other. I work with all kinds of couples: married and unmarried, those who have been together for a year or for decades, couples who want to learn to communicate better or couples who are dealing with the aftermath of an affair. I provide affirming therapy for couples and individuals in the LGBTQI community and work to help every person who enters my office to feel validated, safe, and supported.

I use a specific type of couples therapy, called Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT). EFT is supported by decades of research and can truly transform relationships. I have completed all the required training and supervision needed to be certified in EFT. I have also received training in treating sex issues in therapy and am comfortable helping couples (and individuals) explore their sexual relationships and address issues related to sexual desire, arousal, pain, and compatibility.

I also work with women and couples who are dealing with the stress and heartache that can be a part of fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum. I have dealt with several of these issues in my own life and I know how uniquely painful these struggles are. Your pain and your path are different than mine, but I do want you to know that I've been there and I can help walk you through it.

I have received training in assessing and treating Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and continue to learn through attending workshops and webinars to grow in my ability to treat issues connected to any aspect of someone's journey toward parenthood.
